Desire / Synthesis

Architecture begins
between things.

A synthesis of different desires, requirements,
constraints and ambitions.

Nongchok House. Geometry meets the hand of the maker.

Computation
as a way of thinking.

DesireSynthesis brings different desires, requirements and constraints into a shared architectural proposition. Computation helps us investigate their relationships: between a building and its climate, a material and its geometry, an idea and the way it is made.

At Nongchok House, an irregular local brick meets a precise geometric model. At KJL Innovation Campus, environmental studies inform the envelope and the organisation of work. In our installations, fabrication is itself a way of testing an idea.

The outcome is not a repeated formal language. It is an architecture specific to the relationships that produce it.

From relationships
to built form.

01

Understand the desires

Bring programme, place, climate and material into the same conversation.

02

Investigate the relationships

Use computational studies to test how geometry, performance and spatial organisation affect one another.

03

Work through making

Develop the design with material experiments, fabrication methods and the realities of assembly.
